Flicks x Chicks Film Festival

Yesterday was the Women In Film Dallas Flicks x Chicks Film Festival at the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas. Before seeing the short films block, there was a Filmmakers Workshop where Liz Cardenas — a local Filmmaker who has produced films such as “Never Goin’ Back” and “A Ghost Story”, was there to talk about her experience in front of, and behind the camera.

Afterwards, we headed to the Vetted Well where we saw Director Rhonda Mitrani, accept her Femme Forward Award for her short film, “Supermarket”.

All funds go to the Scholastic Fund that WIFD has to help support female filmmakers and students in TX. City of Angels

The last time we were in LA was around 2009 I think. We spent an entire week there, rented a convertible, hit all the local hot spots, took all the tours, the whole sha-bang! This time we attached a long weekend to a work trip. The hubs flew out for the same few days I was there to work, and he entertained himself with running and meeting up with friends while I finished my video duties.

I was there to shoot a video of the first female Pilot to fly for a major US airline, Bonnie Caputo Tiburzi. It was cool meeting her. I produced and edited a video of her talking about her work in the aviation industry and now how the airline she worked so many years for set her up with an award for female Directors. The award is the Bonnie Award, working in combination with American Airlines and Film Independent. It's really cool how they combined the idea of this award with filmmaking.

Anyway, since we had some free time we decided on at least checking out Venice, the Warner Bros. studio tour and of course eating whatever was in site 😋. When we did the WB Tour we saw Christopher Nolan walking around...no, no selfie with him. I didn't want to fan-girl all over him, plus we were on the little golf carts driving past him, but it always happens in LA, running into at least one famous person here or there. There was also the red carpets you'll see randomly. This year was the red carpet for the Santa Clarita Diet, the Netflix show. From afar we saw Timothy Olyphant, and I'm sure Drew Barrymore was around there somewhere. For more pics. check out my 'gram.
